315W// ending reflection

This E-portfolio is the only online presence I have besides my social medias, so it has allowed me to better curate a professional image; though, I am still working on it. I like the personality I was able to have in my E-portfolio.

The stories on my front page really help viewers understand who I am and the kind of person I am. The home page of my e-portfolio contains paragraphs of my writing, because I love communication. While other students did not like the excess of words, I believed it will get across what I love and who I am to future schools.

The most challenging aspect of my e-portfolio is maintaining and changing things. I have a hard time navigating and changing things on the Wix website, so there have been instances where I’ve had to change whole layouts just to change one small thing. Redesigning pages, however, has allowed me to discover easier and more aesthetically pleasing pages; so, while it has been a roller coaster of redesigns, it has led to friendlier looking pages.

The content of the source WAS the most interesting part of the whole course. This course gave me the knowledge and basic understanding to better prepare myself for studying interpersonal communication in graduate school. It also highlighted the parts of interpersonal communication where there are whole; specifically, in queer communication. This course has allowed me to become more adept in identifying and understanding communication studies, but also has benefitted my own communication personally. So everything- the material taught. It was all equally important and interesting to me. (If I had to pick I would say listening styles was one of my favorite subjects.)

My research paper gave me a better understanding of the statistics I will face in my future. While there is far more gender discrimination and sexism in STEM fields, the ratio for female lectures and professors is below the male counterpart. A better understanding of the barriers, such as relationship status and attempting to receive tenure, of achieving my goal of becoming a good teacher and professor will aid me in securing a career where I can do what I truly love. (Moreover, while the statistics are grim, my passion for teaching communications still stands strong.)

This course IS my chosen career. Gender studies highlights the developmental stages of communications in humans. Understanding the difference in female, male, and androgynous styles will be everything to my future because it is exactly what I want to pursue in my studies. At the end of the day, what I want over everything else is to be a good teacher who prepares students for any career by giving them the information that could teach them how to be better communicators, better listeners, and better readers. (readers as in understanding others by how they interact with the world.) My dad calls these skills “the impact of a breakfast sandwich.” Relationships with other people are the greatest asset someone can have, and relationships are built through all the different styles of communication. Or as my dad would say, “LEGALLY I can’t buy those workers anything over 20 dollars, but if I buy a fuck ton of two dollar breakfast sandwiches, and give each of them one- it will show them that I appreciate the work they do, and so in the future they’ll want to keep doing good work for me. if they do a good job, than the job gets done on time. they don’t teach you that in school. Sometimes it just takes a buying some breakfast sandwiches and you’ll have people who will want to do good for you.”
